The Dane County Regional Airport is back with its Flight of Lights event, boasting bright displays for your drive-thru enjoyment. There are six different themed displays this year, including dreams of travel and a giant thank you to healthcare providers and first responders. LUNAFEST Virtual Screening, April 8-9
The Zonta Club of Madison is holding a film festival fundraiser in collaboration with granola bar brand LUNA to help fulfill its mission of empowering local women through advocacy and service. The seven LUNAFEST films being shown are all centered around and created by women, and folks will have 48 hours to watch their picks.
What’s Past is Prologue: The Unfinished American Conversation, April 10-11
University Opera has done it again, if by “it” you mean composing a beautiful work of art depicting social justice through American history. A follow-up to their recent 2020 production on composer Marc Blitzstein, this performance will touch on the history of racism, voting rights and more through a contemporary (and musical) lens.
Rebulú at Garver Feed Mill, April 15
Local Afro-Latin group Rebulú will be rocking out in the Garver Feed Mill atrium, with socially-distanced tables, flowing food and cocktails, and more than enough room to boogie. Eat, drink and be merry on your night out with the accompaniment of soulful, bop-worthy music.
Floral Fabric Embroidery Virtual Workshop, April 22
It seems like everyone has become a little crafty in the last year or so, but embroidery is one of the more intimidating hobbies due to the teeny tiny stitches. Put your handiwork to the test with a virtual class taught by Revel. No experience necessary — beginners will be stitching up a storm in no time.
Earth Day @ the Nelson Institute, April 22-23
UW’s Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies is taking its Earth Day programming online with a series of lectures, keynote speakers, live Q&As and more with some of the nation’s leading environmentalists. Topics range from equity in the outdoors to sustainable workplace management, all geared toward building a greener and more just future.
“The Power of Presence,” all month long
Firefly Coffeehouse & Artisan Cheese in Oregon is known for its laid-back, living room feel, but also has an artsy side. Throughout the month, Firefly is showcasing the art of two local women, Marla Brenner and Terri Beck-Engel. Enjoy the works of Brenner, an expressive realist, and Beck-Engel, an abstractionist, along with a cup of coffee.
