STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over Northeastern Sunday afternoon from Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at Rizza Performance Center.
The Huskies limited Northeastern to just two shots on goal in the win. Senior Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal, her first on the season. Freshman Lucy Cappadona (Marlborough, Mass.) scored in the second half, her second on the year.
UConn grabbed the 1-0 lead at 26:11 as Kulchycky was able to finish off a header off a free kick taken by sophomore Jacqueline Harnett (Wantage, N.J.).
NU had two good looks to tie the score in the second half as Rose Kaefer got a feed off a corner at the back post in the 62nd minute but missed her shot high. In the 84th minute, Mikenna McManus blasted a free kick from about 20 yards out that went wide left.
The Huskies turned the tables and at 84:58 went up 2-0 on Cappadona's second. Yamile Eveillard (Valley Stream, N.Y.) crossed a pass to Cappadona on the left edge of the box and she blasted a shot into the top-right corner for a 2-0 lead.
UConn will return to action on March 4th when they open BIG EAST play at Providence for a 3 pm match.
