KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team (5-1, 3-1) defeated Appalachian State 1-0 in their second game of the weekend at Murphy-Mellis Field to extend their win streak to five.
The game was tightly contested with both teams tying in shots (9-9) and penalty corners (2-2). Kent State finished with a narrow lead in shots on goal (4-3) having four different players register a shot on target.
Senior midfielder Clara Rodriguez Seto scored what would become the game winning goal for Kent State 8 minutes and 34 seconds into the first quarter. The Mountaineers tried to rally back registering two of their three shots on goal in the second quarter and pulling their goalkeeper with just under six minutes to go in the game, but the Flashes stood strong.
Senior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler finished with three saves on the day for Kent State.
The Flashes will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami RedHawks on Friday, Apr. 2 and Saturday, Apr. 3. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. while Saturday's game is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
