Detroit Lakes and Pelican Rapids played to a stalemate for the first eight minutes before the Lakers found a scoring groove that led to a 10-goal offensive output and a defensive shutout at David Brown Field Thursday, Aug. 27.
Kate Stearns opened the scoring and within 90 seconds DL held all the momentum and a 3-0 lead after two straight goals by Grace Gunderson.
Maddy Bowers polished off a strong first half with back-to-back tallies and a 5-0 lead at the break.
DL matched that effort in a five-goal second half.

Abby Larson scored three minutes into the half. Ava Jones scored four minutes later.
Bowers recorded a hat trick midway through the half, followed by Gunderson with a hat trick of her own with 15-minutes to play.
Stearns added a goal in the final two minutes to put double digits on the scoreboard for new head coach Benjamin Aastuen in his debut.
Keeper Elle Bettcher had a quiet night in net facing one corner kick and making one save in a shutout win in net.
DL kept Vikings’ keeper Grace Haugrud busy with 16 shots on goal besides the 10 in the back of the net.
The Lakers renew their rivalry with East Grand Forks at home in the next game Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Rotary Soccer Park.
