The Badgers took down ASU in a 4-0 win on Saturday at LaBahn Arena. Stellar performances from Wisconsin's defense and goaltending kept the Sun Devils scoreless all game.
Freshman goaltender Cameron Rowe recorded his first collegiate shutout while UW's defensemen limited ASU to just 11 shots on net all game.
Jack Gorniak gave the Badgers (7-6-0, 6-4-0-0-1-0 Big Ten) an early lead with his fourth goal of the season at 2:37. Owen Lindmark and Mathieu De St. Phalle set up the junior forward right on the edge of the crease to put them up by one.
The Badgers jumped up by two on a play by Josh Ess from Dylan Holloway and Mike Vorlicky at 7:02 in the first period. Ess fired a shot just inside the offensive zone face-off dot for his second goal of the season.
Senior Ty Pelton-Byce found the back of the net at 16:21 in the first period for the first time since returning to the lineup after an injury and COVID protocols. Defenseman Tyler Inamoto setup Linus Weissbach with a one timer from the blue line, which Pelton-Byce was able to tip past ASU goaltender Justin Robbins.
Wisconsin headed into the second period up by three. Inamoto lit the lamp for the first time this season, launching a shot at the screened ASU goalie for the fourth goal of the game at 17:02 in the second period. Cole Caufield and Weissback picked up assists on the play.
Last time the Badgers faced off against the Sun Devils (5-10-2), UW was short-rostered due to World Junior selection camp, injuries and COVID-19, missing a total of five skaters from the lineup. ASU won both games, sweeping the Badgers and leaving them hungry for a rematch series.
