Montclair, NJ - The Washington College men's soccer team won their first-ever NCAA Tournament game in program-history as the Shoremen blanked the St. Lawrence Saints, 2-0, at Montclair State Soccer Park on Saturday evening. The Maroon & White move ahead to the NCAA Round of 32 and will face the host Montclair State Red Hawks on Sunday (11/14) at 5:00 p.m.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen looked to have opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match after senior defender Joe Mutscheller put in a header from senior forward James Strine on a free kick into the box. However, the linesman ruled that the Shoremen were offsides on the play.
- Senior Greg Adams had a pair of quality chances but just narrowly missed on both. The forward shot wide on a point-blank attempt from the center of the box in the 13th minutes and then had a 20-yard blast stopped just minutes later by Saints' keeper Ben Woelfinger, who dove to his right.
- The Shoremen had two more excellent opportunities before they finally got one past Woelfinger. Strine drilled a laser free kick just above the center of the crossbar with 22:10 left and junior midfielder Cole Gifford had a good look that was just a bit high a minute later.
- St. Lawrence had their best opportunity with 20:06 on the clock after a dangerous free kick into the box by Marvin Zibanda. The ball bounced around until Shoremen sophomore goalie Anthony Pinto was able to cover up the loose change.
- Strine, a First Team All-Conference selection this season, put in a corner kick with just under four minutes left in the opening half to secure the historic win for Washington College. Strine bent in a shot that eluded Woelfinger, who was screened by a couple of Shoremen on the play
- Washington College (14-4-1) added another tally early in the second half as Adams took a through ball from junior midfielder Alex Coster and beat Woelfinger in the 54th minute.

Scoring
WC - Strine (unnasisted), Adams from Coster
Goalies - Pinto (90 minutes, 6 saves)

SL - none
Goalies - Woelfinger (90 minutes, 2 goals allowed, 6 saves)

Notes
- Sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Pinto was outstanding in goal making six saves and breaking up several other St. Lawrence chances.
- The Shoremen outshot the Saints by a 16-13 margin but many of those shots came late for St. Lawrence.
- St. Lawrence did attempt five corners compared to just one for the Shoremen.
- The Shoremen dropped a 3-1 decision against Montclair State earlier this season in the Athey Cup in Chestertown.

Next Up
Sunday's second-round game against Montclair State has been moved from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in order to give both teams extra rest due to Saturday's weather delays.
