With six or more goals in three quarters, the Warriors cruised to an easy 22-0 win over the Rocori Spartans at Adamson Field.
The scoring started a minute in when Ethan DeRosier scored the first of his five goals. DeRosier found the net again three minutes in to make it 2-0.
Sam Madison, who notched five goals himself, scored the next two Warriors goals of the first quarter.
Jacob Holm got in on the action shortly after Madison with a goal and then the Warriors scored twice in the final minute of the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.
Steven Pribula notched one of the final two goals for Brainerd in the last minute of the quarter along with Madison’s third first-quarter goal.
“I’m super pleased,” Warriors head coach Adam Extrand said. “I wasn’t expecting that. I thought it would be more competitive. We talked about this game last week because we knew it was going to be a good chance to win.”
Brainerd also beat Rocori in Cold Springs 20-5 April 22.
Holm notched his second and third goals and Madison tallied his fourth and fifth goals in the second quarter.
“I just try to take it in myself and try to get the easy score,” Madison said. “We really moved the ball really well. We gave the ball to players who don’t really touch it and we got players who scored who have never played a varsity game before.”
Extrand liked seeing the scoring trio of Holm, DeRosier and Madison step up early.
“They are our top scorers and when those three are patient and not trying to force things they can be really good,” Extrand said.
DeRosier added his third goal with 19 seconds left in the half to make it 12-0 and Camden Langerman scored with seven seconds remaining to give the Warriors a 13-0 cushion into the break.
Out of halftime, DeRosier scored the first two goals for Brainerd to make it 15-0. Captain Maguire Fabian added a goal just seconds after DeRosier’s fifth.
Cole Mackcow and Cade Villwock each added third-quarter goals with Andrew Garding getting two as the Warriors put another seven-spot on the scoreboard in the third quarter.
Harry Seymour and Griffin Carlson were the only two Warrior scorers in the fourth quarter to complete the route.
“We kind of knew the win would be a little easier, but I think we got together and the win was deserved,” Madison said. “It really boosts our morale.”
The win marks Brainerd’s first home win in program history as well as the first time it had multiple wins in a season since joining the Minnesota State High School League.
“I think our boys were really excited about that and you could tell with how they came out,” Extrand said. “They were flying around and playing hard. It was a cool atmosphere before the game.”
Extrand doesn’t want the winning to stop. Brainerd has three more games this week with its next opponent being Tuesday, May 11, against Grand Rapids.
“We talked about this week as an opportunity to make some history in Brainerd with lacrosse,” Extrand said. “First home win, first winning streak and there are more firsts out there. So if we can get another win tomorrow and keep building we will have high confidence into playoff time..”
