SMACKOVER – Karis Robinson tossed a one-hit shutout Thursday as Smackover blanked Dumas 6-0 in 3A-8 softball action. The Lady Bucks improved to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Robinson allowed just one hit, a single in the seventh inning. The senior struck out 10 batters, walked one and hit one. She had at least one strikeout in every inning. Only two balls were hit out of the infield.
“Karis pitched lights out. She pitched a great game,” said Smackover coach Dennis Steele. “Her changeup was working. She was on top of her game. I thought she did a great job.”
The Lady Bucks had eight hits, including a three-run home run by Mackenzie Preston. Defensively, they committed one error.
“We played a whale of a game. I thought we did a lot of good things,” said Steele. “We ran the bases a lot better today and we played better defensively.”
Smackover scored a run in the first when Gabbi Kelly doubled, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. In the second, Malorie Pullin doubled, went to third on a ground out and scored on Reese McKinnon’s ground ball. Another run crossed the plate in the third on a two-out RBI single by Lindy Bates.
The Lady Bucks capped the scoring in the fifth. Claire Schibler singled and Kelly was hit by a pitch in front of Preston’s three-run home run.
Kelly was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Pullin was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Smackover hosts McGehee on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
