INDIANAPOLIS - After coming off of a 7-1 victory against the Truman Bulldogs (0-11, 0-11 GLVC) on Friday, the UIndy baseball team (6-7, 5-2) were able to shut out Truman in a Saturday double-header at Greyhound Park. Corey Bates performed a complete game for the Greyhounds' in the 7-inning, double-digit win in game one, while John Carpinelli slammed in a pair of RBIs for the Hounds in game two.
GAME 1 | UIndy 10, TSU 0 (7 innings)
The Hounds were able score a season-high 10 runs against the Bulldogs in game one, where they scored half of their runs early in the second inning alone. Four different Greyhounds would register a pair of RBIs and two more student-athletes would earn one to their name. Caleb Vaughn would lead the team with three hits in his three at-bats, but Ty Williams would hit the lone dinger in the ballgame to register his first home run in the season.
Bates would earn his first win of the season, his start in the game shutting out the Bulldogs from any runs. The redshirt senior would strike-out nine Truman batters while only allowing three hits in the contest. Bates faced 28 batters while also recording two assists on the mound.
GAME 2 | UIndy 6, TSU 0
The Greyhounds earned their fifth-straight win off of another Bulldog shutout, using three pitchers to help keep the pitches fresh against Truman's bats. Redshirt freshman Wyatt Phillips registered his first win of the season, coming off the bench to throw 3 and 2/3 innings for the Hounds. Phillips tossed two of the five Greyhound strikeouts in game two, only allowing one walk in the 17 batters faced.
Three Hounds garnered an RBI in the second game, Carpinelli and Williams both claiming a pair on the day. Alex Vela would also go around the bases twice in the contest, earning a run in both of his registered hits. Hunter Waning would lead the Greyhounds in hits in game two, putting up three hits from the first, fifth and seventh innings.
UP NEXT
UIndy will have one more contest against the Bulldogs in this series, the final meeting between the two programs in the regular season this spring. The Greyhounds will throw the first pitch of the Sunday, March 21 contest at 12 p.m., the final game in Greyhound Park until at April.
