NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Ida Miceli and Florence Vaillancourt provided all the offense Niagara (10-3, 4-2) would need in a 2-0 shutout win over Siena (6-7-1, 4-2) in MAAC women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon in Loudonville, NY.
Game Recap
• Miceli got the Purple Eagles on the board early with a goal from just outside the 18-yard box that found its way over the keeper for the score.
• As the first half clock hit zero, Niagara would maintain its 1-0 lead over the Siants. The Purple Eagles recorded nine shots in the first half, including four on goal.
• In the 63rd minute, Annie Ibey found Vaillancourt with a cross that she snuck in by the right-side post to give the Purple Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
• Felicia Grufman would be tested in the second half as Siena recorded seven shots, including three on net that she would make saves on.
• Niagara would keep the pressure on late in the game to try and put the game out of reach but its last two shot attempts were saved by the Siena keeper.
Niagara Notes
• This is the Purple Eagles first 10-win season since 2018 and 10th double-digit win campaign under head coach Peter Veltri.
• The Quebec City, Quebec native, Vallaincourt recorded her 10th goal and seventh assist of the season. She is the first Purple Eagle to score 10 goals in a season since Annie Ibey reached the mark during the 2018 campaign.
• Niagara improves to 3-0 following a loss, including a 2-0 mark in league play after being on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
• Grufman earns her second clean sheet of the season, with her first coming against Cleveland State on Sept. 5.
