It had been 13 days since the last time the St. Mary’s boys soccer team took the field for a game and the rust showed with the Crusaders’ slow start Monday.

Nonetheless, the Crusaders’ offense got rolling thanks to Leo Cronk and Jiho Lee, who each had a goal and an assist for St. Mary’s as it was able to upend host Rogue Valley Adventist, 3-0, in the Far West League affair.

Cronk tallied the contest’s first goal in the 20th minute from the left side of the field on a pass from Chris Kranenburg, and the Crusaders (2-3, 1-0 FWL) rode the 1-0 lead into halftime.

At the 55-minute mark, Uejun Choi gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead on a setup from Lee. Moments later, Lee scored on an assist from Cronk.

Freshman goalkeeper Davis Jones collected five saves and helped lead the Crusaders’ defense.

The loss was the first of the season for the Red Tail Hawks, who dropped to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the FWL.

PHOENIX 8, NORTH VALLEY 1: At Phoenix, senior forward Victor Martinez racked up four goals to help power Phoenix to a Skyline Conference win at P-T Rising Stadium.

It took Martinez just 14 seconds to help Phoenix crack the scoreboard. Martinez scored on an assist from Jorge Mejia before repaying the favor on Mejia’s goal at the 18-minute mark. Martinez also tallied in the 32nd, 50th and 62nd minutes.

Mejia finished with three assists and Dominic Crenshaw added two assists in addition to his stellar play at center midfield. Caden Gallegos also scored and assisted for the Pirates.

The Knights dropped to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Skyline play.

Girls soccer

NORTH VALLEY 7, PHOENIX 2: At Merlin, Phoenix was unable to bottle up North Valley’s offense, which took over in the second half of the Knights’ Skyline Conference victory.

The Pirates (2-5, 0-4 Skyline) received a goal from Anabell Delgado in the 20th minute and Sofia Rodriguez in the 55th.

The Knights, who held to a 2-1 halftime lead, improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-2 in Skyline Conference play.

Cross-country

HARRIER CLASSIC: At Albany, Phoenix senior Sophia Stubblefield and junior Kyla Potratz each eclipsed the school’s all-time girls 5,000-meter cross-country record Saturday at Bryant Park.

Stubblefield placed 12th overall in 18 minutes, 24.97 seconds to establish a new school record, while Potratz was 14th and is now runner-up on that list at 18:29.23.

Crescent Valley’s Emily Wisniewski won the race in 17:37.94.

Phoenix senior Elwood Hosking moved into fourth place on the boys all-time record list by placing 11th in 15:41.86. Milwaukie’s Logan Law won in 14:43.20.
