From rent control and more executive power for Sacramento’s mayor to a bevy of regional races for local seats and Congressional office, results are trickling in for regional election races.

Pro tip: be patient. It may take days — or weeks — for ballots to be counted to have clarity on some of these contests.

Here’s a rundown of what Sacramento region election results look like now (updated at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 6):

City of Sacramento Ballot Measures

Measure A — that’s the so-called “strong mayor” proposal that would give Mayor Darrell Steinberg more executive power — is sitting at 57 percent of the voters casting “no,” and 42 percent of in favor.

So far, we’ve seen just over 131,000 ballots counted for Measure A. CapRadio expects anywhere between 200,000 to 224,000 ballots cast in this race, far more than the 150,000 voters who weighed-in on Measure U, another citywide measure, in 2018.

Measure C, which would provide increased protections for renters, is at 62 percent “no” and 37 percent “yes.” To date, 130,996 ballots have been counted, about one-third of the total expected ballots.

City of Sacramento Races

There are two City Council seats up for grabs.

In South Sacrmento’s district eight, school board member Mai Vang is at 51 percent, or 5,612 votes, and pastor Les Simmons is at 48 percent, or 5,363. Nearly 8,000 ballots have been cast.

What’s interesting: In the primary in 2016 — which was the last time this race was decided — only 8,600 votes were cast in this district. And 9,911 voted in the primary this past March. But CapRadio anticipates anywhere from 18,500 to 21,300 ballots this election.

In the North Sacramento race for the District 2 seat, challenger Sean Loloee is at 55 percent and incumbent Allen Warren is at 44 percent. Some 10,500 ballots have been counted. More than 8,000 ballots were cast this past March during the primary. And we’re estimating anywhere from 17,000 to 20,000 ballots in this race.

Sacramento County Races

All eyes are on district three: That’s where Gregg Fishman is at 50%, and Rich Desmond at 49%. Some 84,000 votes have been cast; there were approximately 75,000 cast in the primary election this past March. CapRadio estimates we could see up to 142,700 ballots cast in this race, which means it could be weeks until we see a final result.

Mayoral Races

In Elk Grove, Mayor Steve Ly is at 34%, challenger Bobbie Singh-Allen is at 46%. More than 55,000 ballots have been cast; four years ago, more than 68,000 votes in that race. CapRadio expects anywhere from 66,000 to 86,000 ballots in this race.

In Stockton, incumbent Mayor Michael Tubbs has 24,281 votes, and challenger Kevin J Lincoln II has 26,375. Tubbs, who has been a national figure, is facing a tough road ahead as more ballots are tallied in this contest.

State Legislature Offices

In the state Senate, incumbent Brian Dahle (District 1) is at 58%. And state Sen. Susan Eggman is at 58% (District 5).

Over in the Assembly: Assemblyman Kevin Kiley is at 54%, Assemblyman Kevin McCarty is at 77%. Assemblyman. James Gallagher is at 61%

Regional Congressional Races

Incumbents are sitting with a majority of votes in regional races for the House of Representatives.

Rep. Doris Matsui is at 75%, Rep. John Garamendi is at 56%, Rep. Ami Bera is at 61%, Rep. Jerry McNerney is at 61% and Rep. Josh Harder is at 58%.

Some Republican lawmakers are in closer races, with incumbents Rep. Doug LaMalfa at 55% and Rep. Tom McClintock at 53%.
