NEW ULM — The last time New Ulm played Worthington in boys’ soccer, the Trojans ran all over the Eagles with an 8-0 victory.
On Tuesday, the two battled at New Ulm High School and the Eagles played one of their better better first halfs of the season.
Worthington scored only one goal in the first half as the Eagles’ defense swarmed the ball whenever the Trojans got it in their territory. But Worthington’s speed showed up in the second half and scored five more times in a 6-0 win.
The Trojans (15-0, 11-0) had a chance to score early with 21:05 left in the first half, but Jonathan Banegas fired a shot high. New Ulm’s Christian Edwards also had a chance to put the Eagles on the board, but he was denied by keeper Eduardo Dominguez.
Worthington got on the board after Mynor Perez tapped one in from in front of the net with 6:02 left in the half.
The Trojans went up 20 on a goal from Edgar Carrillo and 3 minutes later Menkem Mehri made it 3-0. Ulises Barrera booted one from 30 yards out to make it 4-0 and after they scored again, Banegas scored the final goal for the 6-0 final.
