MILL CREEK — Tygarts Valley split a pair of contests on Wednesday evening, blanking Pocahontas County and falling to Philip Barbour in the nightcap.

Seth Currence tossed a five-inning one-hitter to lead the Bulldogs to a 10-0 win in the opening game.

Currence fanned eight.

Garrett Gibson went 2 for 4 with four RBIs in the win, while Currence helped his cause by knocking in three runs.

Charles Long had the lone hit for the Warriors.

In the second game, Gage Bibey had a pair of home runs and Philip Barbour broke open a close game by scoring eight runs over the final three innings in claiming a 14-7 victory.

The Bulldogs trailed 5-0 before scoring a single run in the third on an error and three more in the fourth as Brandon Mahoney plated a run with a sacrifice bunt, Currence had an RBI fielder’s choice and Paden Haney singled in a run to cut the lead to 5-4.

However, the Colts picked up a run in the fifth on Jesiah Matlick’s RBI sacrifice bunt and two more in the sixth on run-producing singles from Nick Hamrick and Cody Cooper to extend the lead to 8-4.

Bibey homered in the seventh and David White added a pinch-hit two-run single as PB plated six additional runs

Bibey also had a two-run blast in the second, Braiden Short an RBI double, Austin Bolyard a run-producing single and Cooper an RBI sacrifice fly.

Tygarts Valley added a run-producing single from Noah Armstrong and two-run double by Mahoney in the seventh.

Mason Halfin earned the win in 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing just one hit and fanning three.

Tygarts Valley (10-11) will travel to Moorefield at 4 p.m. Friday for a Potomac Valley Conference doubleheader.

Philip Barbour improved to 13-6 and is slated to visit Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference contest.
