SCOTTSDALE -- Junior Flemmings continued his hot goal scoring streak with a helping hand from his teammates Saturday as Phoenix Rising FC shut out San Diego Loyal SC 2-0 on Pride Night at Casino Arizona Field.

The dominant win, Rising's third straight overall, moved their season mark to 5-1-1. With 16 points in seven matches, Phoenix holds down first place in USL Championship's Group B. Rising also leads the group with a +15 goal differential.

"I’m proud of our boys," Rising Head Coach Rick Schantz said after the match. "We knew, being at home, we had to go press them and not let them dictate the game and have the ball."

The defeat drops San Diego (3-3-2, 11 points), coached by US Soccer legend Landon Donovan, into a tie with Orange County for second place in Group B -- OC has played three fewer matches than the Loyal.

Rising controlled the pace of the match as things got rolling. In the first 20 minutes, Phoenix pressured Loyal goalkeeper Jake Fenlason with four shots and also earned four corner kicks but could not get the opening tally.

Fresh off his hat trick a week ago, Flemmings put the home side on the scoreboard in the 26th minute. Showing off some eye-opening individual skill, the Jamaican forward took a ball in the middle of the field, got himself some space and unleashed a 30-yard bullet that beat Fenlason to the left side of the net:

The strike was Flemmings' eighth goal this season.

Rufat Dadashov did his best to double the Rising lead just minutes later, but Fenlason tipped out Dadashov's volley and the match remained 1-0 at halftime.

With San Diego struggling to mount a consistent attack, Rising doubled its advantage in the 59th minute courtesy of Darnell King:

The marker was the first goal for King as a member of Phoenix Rising.

"It feels great," King said of the low drive that made it 2-0. "I wish the fans were here. I know they’re watching at home. We love you guys and it feels great to get a goal."

The only real drama left was whether Rising keeper Zac Lubin could register the shutout. Lubin made sure the Loyal left the Valley with nothing after this close-range save on Carlos Alvarez in the 73rd minute:

"We’ve done well defensively but I feel like I’ve given up some soft goals," Lubin explained. "The number one goal tonight was the clean sheet and that’s what we did."

The Rising outshot the Loyal 22-12 overall on the evening -- shots on goal favored Phoenix 7-5. Phoenix also garnered 12 corner kicks to San Diego's 8 while the home squad owned 53 percent of the possession. The Loyal got 3 yellow cards while the Rising were not booked in the match.

Phoenix will next make up the postponed contest from last week, traveling to Carson, Calif. to take on LA Galaxy II (3-1-0, 9 points) at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The match can be streamed on the ABC15 app and heard on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

It is the first of four consecutive road matches for Phoenix Rising following a perfect 3-0 homestand -- without any fans filling those stands.

"We have a short rest and then a second one on Saturday so right now it’s all about recovery," Schantz said.
