CONWAY, South Carolina – UNCW used a goal in each half to extend its win streak to three games with a 2-0 victory over Coastal Carolina in non-conference women's soccer action at the CCU Soccer Stadium on Sunday evening.
The win elevated the Seahawks' record to 3-1-0 while the Chanticleers dropped to 2-1-1 after losing for the first time this season.
UNCW jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on the Chanticleers in the 10th minute. Freshman forward Kayla Burroughs sent a ball into the penalty area that was collected by sophomore midfielder Madison Henry. Henry's attempt was stopped by junior goalkeeper Ky Hudson, but junior forward Jordan Faveri knocked in the rebound inside the far post for her third goal of the season.
The Seahawks extended the margin to 2-0 just over eight minutes into the second half when graduate student forward Audrey Harding sent a pass to Faveri, who found redshirt senior midfielder Morgan Nanni. Nanni slipped a low shot past Hudson inside the far post to register her third goal of the year.
Led by freshman goalkeeper Kaylie Bierman, the Seahawks limited Coastal Carolina to just nine shots, including three attempts on goal. Bierman authored three saves to earn the first shutout of her college career.
Making her first start of the season, Hudson tallied 10 saves in the loss for Coastal Carolina, which was outshot by a 21-9 margin.
UNCW returns home next Sunday, Sept. 12, to welcome Charlotte to the Port City for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest. Coastal Carolina begins a three-game road swing on Thursday, Sept. 9, with a 7 p.m. tilt at Wake Forest.
