The Bishop Ludden girls soccer team continued their perfect start to the 2021 season on Monday, shutting out host Faith Heritage 3-0.

The Gaelic Knights are 4-0 through their first week of games and have not allowed a single goal, outscoring opponents 10-0 thus far. In Monday’s win, Faith Griffin, Norah Casey and Ashley Pawelczyk found the back of the Saints’ net.

Bishop Ludden goalie Sarah Boyea had only two saves against Faith Heritage but has now racked up 12 stops on the season, according to stats reported to Syracuse.com. Boyea, a senior, is in her fifth year as the starting goalie for the squad.

After last year’s unconventional fall season, where Class D teams like the Gaelic Knights were only playing close-by teams that were sometimes in Class C and Class B, coach Pat Cassalia said that the slight return to normalcy in 2021 has been a welcome change.

“This year we’re in league play, so we can be very competitive,” he said. “It means a lot when you have something to play for, for example a league title.”

Bishop Ludden will next take on Cato-Meridian at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

LaFargeville 4, Thousand Islands 4

The Knights and Vikings did it in very different ways, but both teams played to an even draw in a high-scoring affair.

For LaFargeville, Laina Hutchins notched all four goals, while Thousand Islands featured four different scorers – Liberty Dippel, Jenna Pavlot, Trisha Thompson and Sarah Corbett. In net, Lyndsey Matthews recorded a whopping 19 saves for the Knights.

Chittenango 4, Phoenix 2

Since losing their season-opener, the Bears have not lost, as they won for the third time in their last four tries by doubling up the Firebirds. Chittenango tied Cazenovia 1-1 last Thursday and are now 3-1-1 on the season.

On Monday, Jacob Scheidelman and Arthur Paul each notched one goal and one assist to lead in the victory.

Sauquoit Valley 5, Poland 1

Sauquoit Valley used a hat-trick from Andrew Dischiavo to take down the defending Class D sectional-champion Tornadoes on the road. Andrew Chmukh added one goal and two assists and goalie Alex Prichard collected six saves, the visitors improved to 4-0 on the year.

Cooperstown 4, Waterville 0

The Hawkeyes moved to 4-0 this season behind a two-goal effort from Luca Olsen-Gardner and two assists from Colby Diamond.

Clinton 3, Canastota 0

The visiting Warriors won their third contest in a row to move to 3-1 on the year and have outscored opponents 21-0 during the stretch. Jack Devine led the offense by scoring one goal and tallying one assist, while goalie Owen Saunders recorded five saves in the shutout.
