The Peninsula Oilers continued to have trouble with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots on Thursday in a 2-0 loss at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

The Pilots are the only team in the Alaska Baseball League the Oilers have not beaten. Peninsula has scored just two runs in the three games against the Anchorage side.

The Oilers will have to figure out the Pilots to make the playoffs. Four teams in the five-team league make the playoffs at the end of the 40-game regular season. The Pilots are currently in fourth place at 9-11, while the Oilers are 6-13.

The Pilots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jake Putnam shut the Pilots down over the first four innings, giving up a hit and a walk. Anchorage immediately got to work against reliever Nolan Patterson.

With one out, Tarren Sugita walked. Cole Escher then doubled to put runners on second and third. Connor McGuire then singled to score the two runs. Patterson would pitch two innings and give up the two runs on four hits.

Mose Hayes, a graduate of Homer High School, and Henry Bird kept the Pilots off the board the rest of the game.

For the Pilots, Nate Diamond had six scoreless innings, William St.Marseille had a scoreless inning and Ricky Tibbett had two scoreless innings. The three pitchers combined to strike out 12 Oilers. Peninsula had six hits in the game.

The Oilers continue the 10-game road trip by playing the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy at 7 p.m. today and the Chugiak Chinooks at Lee Jordan Field at 7 p.m. Saturday.
