This is actually the third iteration of the brand, which Göransson and Blank started straight out of Beckmans Design School. Of closing their line for a second time, Göransson said, “We wanted freedom and we got to this stage where you either find investment and you start making T-shirts and cheap shit, [and] we just decided like, let’s keep our integrity and put it on ice.”
That ice seems to have thawed: Blank Atelier has dared to come back to life during a global health crisis where work-from-home has become the norm and a premium has been put on comfort. “In the pandemic it’s kind of the worst time ever for a suit. Like, who needs to dress up? On the other hand, I can say that it might be the moment to be classic,” states Göransson. “Why not make life simple? You have two fits of pants, you have your five white shirts, one or two favorite blazers and your coat, and every morning you don’t even have to think about [getting dressed].”
