CAMP JACK: Blank slate - Harrison Daily

There is nothing quite like sitting down with a fresh cup of coffee and starring at blank slate on which to create a masterpiece. Hidden somewhere in this empty canvas is another Mona Lisa waiting impatiently to reveal herself. Possibilities abound as the only limitation is your imagination. It is especially rewarding knowing that this particular masterpiece will be the work of numerous talented and caring people creating something amazing that will help others.
This is how I view Camp Jack at the moment. Hopefully, we will soon have a beautiful, historic building as our empty canvas in which to create something truly special for our veterans and community. The Camp Jack Board of Directors have been busy putting together an initial “wish list” of services and conceptual plans, but nothing is decided as yet. As of this moment, the slate is completely blank and waiting for you.
We will soon be forming several committees for the purpose of collecting and evaluating ideas. The Veteran Assistance Committee will focus on putting together concepts of how best to serve our veterans. How to meet the needs of our residents will be the job of the Community Services Committee. The Museum Committee will formulate plans to gather and display our local military history and document oral histories for both our local veterans and civilians.
There will also be an Architectural Committee that will make design and space planning recommendations as well as Fundraising, Special Event, Administrative, Education, Outreach, School Programs, Public Relations and other committees formed to gather ideas and research options. Certainly there will be differences of opinion and this is a good thing as it will give the Camp Jack Board of Directors several great possibilities to choose from. The choices will be based solely on what is in the best interest of our veterans and community.
It is not very often that we have the opportunity to have our voices heard and see our creative energies be part of something so special and for the greater good. You are invited to be be part of a team that strives to helps others have better and more meaningful lives. To help our community feel proud about who we are and where we’re headed.
So if you’re interested in being on one of these committees or sharing a few hours of your time each month to do some great work for your community by volunteering, drop us a note at campjackvrc@yahoo.com. You can also share your ideas and follow our progress by visiting our Facebook page at Campjackvrc.
You do not to be an expert in any of these areas to contribute. Your life experiences qualify you to have opinions and ideas that can help make our masterpiece shine a bit brighter. So put your thinking cap on and come join in the excitement and fun. Put your hand on the brush that will turn our blank slate into a thing of beauty and purpose that will serve our veterans and community well for generations to come.
