Bryce Kiley ensured Xaverian was all smiles on Senior Day.
Kiley went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and 4 RBI as Xaverian continued its winning ways with a 10-0 victory over Norwood in five innings on a warm Tuesday afternoon on Clapboard Street.
The Hawks, who sit atop the Catholic Conference, have now won eight of their nine contests this year, surrendering two runs or less in seven of them.
“We are a great practice team, and what I mean by that is our seniors help us get ready to play every single day beginning with their attitude in practice,” Hawks coach Gerry Lambert said. “I’ve been impressed with this group and these seniors because even with the year off last year they’ve helped us almost not skip a beat.”
Cam Grindle, Daniel Elliot, Jack Haynes and Hunter Wolcott combined for the shutout win, allowing just two hits.
“It was great getting a win where everyone contributed,” said Elliot, a senior who will head to Endicott in the fall. “Hopefully we can keep what we have going heading towards playoffs.”
Xaverian jumped on top in the bottom of the first as after a hit batter and a walk, Nick Lewis lined an RBI single to center. Moments later, Kiley delivered the key hit of the inning, smacking a two-run triple down the right-field line to give Xaverian a 3-0 advantage.
The Hawks took full control in the second to put the Mustangs away. Two walks, a Henry Fleckner single, a Liam Foley sacrifice fly, and a passed ball coupled with a throwing error brought home three more runs for Xaverian to extend the lead to 7-0.
Kiley smoked a two-run double in the fourth to push Xaverian’s lead to 9-0 before Ty Longo capped the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth.
