South Orange, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season in its home opener against La Salle, 1-0 on Saturday.
The Pirates were out and running early with a Jake Barrett (England) goal at 6' to put the Pirates up, 1-0. Off of a free kick, James Boote (Southampton, England) crossed the ball into the box where Maurice Williams (West Orange, N.J.) was able to get his chest on it to send it over to Barrett who found the left corner of the net for his first goal as a Pirate.
Following the goal, La Salle ramped up the offensive attack generating eight first-half corners and five shots to the Pirates' two. Backed by a solid back line and some strong play in net by Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy), the Pirates held La Salle scoreless to earn the shutout on a chilly day at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Turning Point
At the 47-minute mark, Williams was assessed a red card forcing the Pirates down a man early in the second half. Despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the second period, the Pirates kept even with the Explorers with each side registering three shots on net apiece.
